Hope for Hartford
Hope for Hartford is a fortnight of special events celebrating 200 years of St. John’s Church, taking place in October 2024.
The word "church" has two meanings, in the Bible the church is the body of Christian believers, not a special building or place. However, for the last 200 years, the meeting place for many Christians in Hartford has been St John's church building, the focal point at the centre of the village of Hartford.
Building work started on 29th March 1822 and the church and churchyard were consecrated by the Bishop of Chester on 8th December 1824 following completion. The construction cost was about £1450.
We want to mark this milestone with a series of events and special church services. There will be Heritage Open Days in church, a range of events from quizzes, chocolate tasting, a ceilidh and more, plus special services on three Sundays in October.
