Hartford Church of England High School

hartfordhigh badgeOn September 1st 2012, Hartford High School closed and Hartford Church of England High School opened; a very rare occurrence in the world of education. As a Voluntary Aided Church of England High School we are unique in this geographical area and our already excellent links with St John’s Church were a key factor in the decision to change status.

As a Church of England school we exist to serve our local communities and we are determined to continue our commitment to Languages and Sport and to producing young people who are fit for the world. In modern, and increasingly secular, times we aim to underpin all that we do with concrete Christian values.

In brief, we are a school with very high standards of achievement in all areas of school life; we have an absolute determination to focus on continued improvement.

Ours is a dynamic and vibrant school community, offering a very wide range of curricular and extra curricular opportunities to allow our students to develop themselves in all aspects of their education: academic, social, emotional and spiritual.

Our Church of England status is reflected in both the curriculum and the whole life of the school community.

Religious Education is an important and positive part of the curriculum. Collective worship has been - and continues to be - an integral part of school life, providing an opportunity to foster a feeling of community and belonging through the sharing of experiences. It encourages a respect, tolerance and care for the world, as well as the opportunity to think of the needs of others. Our Christian ethos is promoted through our staff and our pastoral structures. Rev. Phil Highton has recenly been appointed Chaplain at our school and is also Assistant Minister at St John's.
